Tamil Nadu: Chief Secretary, Ministerial consultation on auto meter charges

Tamil Nadu : Transport Minister S.C. Sivasan has said that the Chief Secretary is considering the auto meter fare.
The Tamil Nadu government had revised the meter fare for autos in 2013. After that, while hearing a PIL filed by a person, the court ordered a revision of the meter fare in February 2022. After this, the government held several rounds of negotiations, but even after 2 years, there has been no increase in the auto meter fare.
Since the meter fare has not been increased for 12 years, the Transport Department held discussions with auto drivers in March last year and received suggestions regarding the fare. However, the fare has not been finalized. In this context, the drivers’ associations have been staging intense protests for the last few days.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Taxi Drivers’ Associations met Minister Sivasankar at the Transport Minister’s residence at Green Lane in Chennai and put forth their demands in this regard.
Responding to this, the minister said that detailed action will be taken on the request as the Transport Department officials are in the final stages of work on the mini bus. Auto meter fare is on the advice of the Chief Secretary. He said that the meter fare will be changed soon.
