Tamil Nadu: At the age of 49, a mother will study MBBS with her daughter

Chennai: 49-year-old Amuthavalli from Tenkasi is all set to begin her medical studies, a dream she has had for over 15 years. While helping her daughter prepare for the NEET entrance exam, Amuthavalli herself began studying the same subject. Driven by her long-standing ambition of becoming a doctor, she appeared for the NEET exam along with her daughter, as per a report by Malaimalar. Although Amuthavalli scored 147 marks, she secured a seat under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category and has chosen Virudhunagar Medical College for her studies. Speaking about her journey, Amuthavalli said, “I have been working as a physiotherapist but I always wanted to study medicine. This dream started 15 years ago but I never got the chance. Thanks to my daughter, I got the courage to try again. We have decided that we will not study in the same medical college even if both of us get admission.” Her daughter, Samyuktha Krupalini, has scored 460 marks in NEET and has participated in the common counselling process. With a strong possibility of getting a seat themselves, both mother and daughter are likely to start MBBS studies in the same year.
