T.T.V. Dhinakaran reiterated the demand for the waiver of farmers’ crop loans.

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran has demanded the Tamil Nadu government to waive off the entire crop loan of farmers in the state. He said that in the current situation, farmers are facing serious economic and agricultural crisis, hence the government should take immediate steps as per its election promise.

In a post released on its X account on Friday, T.T.V. Dinakaran expressed concern about the cultivation of Kuruvai paddy in the Cauvery delta region. He said that there is no possibility of releasing water from Mettur Dam, due to which the irrigation system of farmers is being affected.

In his post he also mentioned the special package of Rs 134 crore announced by the state government. He claimed that this package talks about 18 hours of uninterrupted power supply, but the situation at the ground level is different. Dhinakaran alleged that farmers are facing daily power cuts without prior notice, due to which they are not able to use electric motor pumps in their fields on time.

He said that due to the affected irrigation system, crops are not getting water on time, due to which farmers are suffering huge losses. Raising questions on the government, he said that in such a situation, farmers are forced to think about how to trust the special package announced by the government.

T.T.V. Dhinakaran also alleged that before coming to power, a complete waiver of crop loans of small and marginal farmers was promised, but it has not been implemented so far. He called it a betrayal of the farmers and said that the government should fulfill its promises.

He stressed that the agriculture sector is already facing many challenges, including water shortage, irregular power supply and rising costs. In such a situation, the debt burden is putting more pressure on the farmers.

Dhinakaran appealed to the government to go beyond political announcements and actually solve the problems of farmers. He said that crop loan waiver is an important step to improve the economic condition of farmers, which should be implemented immediately.

After this statement, the political debate regarding the problems of farmers and agricultural policies has once again intensified in the state. The round of allegations and counter-allegations continues between various parties, while farmer organizations have also demanded a clear answer from the government on this issue.
