Sword-wielding miscreant arrested in Ashirwad Chowk

Raipur. Raipur. Police at the Urla police station in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, have arrested a man who was threatening the public with an iron sword. Police seized a 15-inch-long, sword-like weapon from the accused. The accused has been identified as Michael Maseel alias Lala, son of Prabhu Masih, 28 years old, resident of Ganesh Chowk Charoda, Police Station Bhilai 3, Durg district. On September 23, 2025, during patrolling under the leadership of the Urla Police Station Sub-Inspector, police received information from an informant that a man was threatening passersby with a sword near Arshiwad Chowk. To verify the information, police brought witnesses Kuldeep Verma and Biru Sarathi to the scene and issued a notice under Section 179 of the NSS and obtained their consent.

Accused and Weapon Seizure
Police arrived at the scene, surrounded and apprehended the accused. A sharp, sword-like weapon was found in the accused’s possession. When asked for his name and address, the accused identified himself as Michael Maseel, alias Lala. The sword measured 15 inches in length. The accused could not produce any valid documents proving his possession of the sword. Police seized the sword in the presence of witnesses and took action. The accused was found guilty of crimes under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

Legal Action
The Urla police station duly arrested the accused and informed his family under Section 47(1) of the BNSS. They also confirmed the arrest under Sections 48(1) and 48(2) of the BNSS. The seizure of the sword and the arrest of the accused were photographed and video recorded under Section 105 of the BNSS. The sub-inspector and the patrol team took action to ensure public safety and prevent violent acts. Police stated that anyone who intimidates people by carrying a weapon in a public place cannot remain immune from legal action.
