Swiss Open: Gayatri-Trisa out, Malvika in main draw

Basel (IANS) | Indian women’s pair Gayatri Gopichand and Trisa Jolly crashed out in the first round of the Swiss Open Badminton Tournament 2023 while Malvika Bansod qualified for the women’s singles main draw.

Gayatri and Trisa, who had reached the semi-finals of the All England Championships last week, went down 14-21, 14-21 to second seeds Apriyani Rahyu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia.

On the other hand, Malvika Bansod defeated Lauren Lam of America 21-17, 21-7 to enter the main draw. Aakarshi Kashyap got a bye into the main draw of the tournament.

Meanwhile, India’s veteran doubles player Ashwini Ponnappa lost in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles qualification matches.

N Sikki Reddy and Aarthi Sara Sunil have made it to the main draw.

In men’s doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Sumeeth B Reddy lost their qualifiers, while in mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy made it to the main draw.
