Surat: Surat Municipality busy in collecting property tax before the end of the financial year.

Surat: Surat Municipality has recovered 57.18 percent of the property tax collection works, while still three months are left in the current financial year. Surat Municipality has deposited Rs 1223 crore in the municipal treasury against the property tax target of Rs 2139 crore. Now, with three months left, the municipal machinery has taken aggressive action against the remaining property owners. Till now, Varachha A zone has been leading in property tax collection with 64.31 percent, followed by Central Zone with 36.02 percent.

After the abolition of octroi system in Surat Municipality, property tax has become the main source of revenue of the Municipal Corporation. Due to this, the municipality is doing other work including revision assessment to increase property tax income. The property tax target of the municipality for this financial year was Rs 2139 crore.

Out of which the municipality has recovered Rs 1223 crore till January 3. By making tax collection works more aggressive through Varachha Zone of Municipal Corporation, Varachha Zone is leading among all the zones of Municipal Corporation in terms of percentage. In Varachha A zone of the municipality, on January 3, Rander Zone was 59.57 percent, Central Zone-A 36.02 percent, Central Zone-B 43.82 percent, Katargam Zone 56.77 percent, Varachha Zone-A 64.31 percent, Eighth Zone 60.58 percent, Limbayat Zone 62.39 percent. , Varachha. There has been 59.77 percent recovery in Zone-B and 48.13 percent recovery in Kanakpur Zone.
