Surat: SRK Diamond Company presents Santokba Humanitarian Award to Sonam Wangchuk

SRK Knowledge Foundation is the charitable arm of Sri Ramakrishna Exports Private Limited (SRK). A globally renowned diamond crafting and export company, has presented the prestigious Santokba Humanitarian Award to Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, an Indian engineer, innovator, education and sustainable development reformist, and founder-director of Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement (SECML) Ladakh. Awarded.

The award ceremony was held at Hotel The Zen Ladakh, Ladakh, in which Rahul Dholakia, Businessman – SRK, presented the award to Sonam Wangchuk, Chief Guest Mrs. Neelam Mishra, First Lady (wife of Lt. Governor of Ladakh) presented the award to Sonam Wangchuk . The Guest of Honor was Her Excellency Rani Sarla Chewang, Mrs. Geetanjali JB, wife of Mr. Sonam Wangchuk and Co-Founder and Director of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL), and Advocate Mrs. Thinales Angmo (elder sister of Sonamji), in presence of various dignitaries Awarded in The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Sonam Wangchuk’s family including students and alumni.

It is heart touching that this humanitarian award has been instituted in the name of a mother. This occasion is a tribute to mothers, and hence I have brought here the women in my life who have made me successful – my elder sister, my wife Gitanjali, my family members, etc…. This award money will act as a seed to ensure high quality education especially for girls and provide lifelong learning opportunities for the students and people of Ladakh… said Mr. Sonam Wangchuk.

SRKKF has dedicated itself to humanity, mainly working towards health, education and upliftment of the needy. The Santokba Humanitarian Award was instituted in the year 2006 in the loving memory of Govindaka’s late mother Santokba, whose selfless devotion and humanitarian values inspired SRKKF to further its mission by honoring humanitarians from various walks of life.

With his vision of Giving Back to the Society, Shri Govindakaka has dedicated himself to the cause of humanity, and has been leading the SRKKF since its inception in 2014. They take initiatives in, and are associated with, education, healthcare and agriculture, among other social causes. Associated with more than 30 educational, medical and social trusts in various capacities.

The most important objective of Santokba Humanitarian Award is to positively impact the society, inculcate powerful values and encourage youth to spread compassion and competitive ideologies. So far, the prestigious award has been conferred on 13 eminent personalities from distinguished backgrounds, including Mr. Ratan Tata, industrialist, philanthropist and former Chairman of Tata Sons, Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, social reformer and child rights activist, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Mr. A.S. Kiran Kumar, space scientist and former chairman of ISRO; Mrs. Sudha Murthy, Educator, Author, Philanthropist and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation; There are other eminent people who have been honored with this award.

Mr. Wangchuk’s work on the Ice Stupa project, which combats water scarcity in the region by creating an artificial glacier, has been recognized internationally and is a testament to his creativity and dedication to solving environmental problems. His organization SECMOL has been recognized by the Government of India as a model for alternative education. His work in Ladakh has made a positive difference in the lives of many and he is a true inspiration to many who aspire to make a difference in the world.

Mr Wangchuk expressed happiness over SRK’s commitment to be Net Zero by 2024, which is 6 years ahead of India’s 2030 targets or any Indian MNC.

Shri Gitanjali concluded by saying my heartfelt gratitude to both Gujarat and Ladakh – Gujarat is the entrepreneurial capital of India, and Ladakh reflects the spirit of enterprise in the midst of all challenging conditions, the way its people make it possible.
