Sundargarh: Bus plunges 10 feet down the road, 1 killed, over 40 injured

Sundargarh: A private passenger bus reportedly plunged 10 feet down the road which left one dead and 40 others injured on the Telendihi-Tangarmunda road in Sundargarh district today.

The private bus –Maa Samaleswari- bearing registration no. OD-23R-0347) was going towards Sundargarh from the Kinjirkela area at around 1:10 PM. However, it skidded off the road and fell 10 feet down near a turning when the driver attempted to give side to a bike (CG -14MQ-7156) that was coming from the opposite side.

The impact of the accident was so heavy that the front portion of the bus was damaged while one of the passengers died on the spot. over 40 other passengers also were injured due to the accident.

On being informed, Sundargarh Sadar Police along with the fire-fighters rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue operation with the help of some locals. They called the ambulance and rushed the injured persons to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

The health condition of four of injured passengers are stated to be critical, said sources.

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the matter while the transport officials are verifying the documents of the ill-fated bus and bike.
