Sultanpur Lodhi: Flood-affected Mand villages are battling fever and skin diseases

Punjab: Villagers in flood-affected areas of Sultanpur Lodhi have complained of ailments such as fever, skin allergies, body and stomach pain, and fatigue due to humidity. Though the number of cases is low, health teams are on high alert and providing timely medical assistance. Health officials say that as the water starts receding, the possibility of dengue and malaria also increases. No case of diarrhoea has been reported so far. However, medical teams are visiting the affected villages of the Mand area and keeping a close watch on the situation. “We are already distributing ORS to help residents take necessary precautions,” doctors said.

Residents have been advised to drink boiled water. Kapurthala civil surgeon Dr Harpal Singh confirmed that no major health issue has been reported. “Our teams are actively visiting the affected areas and medical camps have also been set up,” he said. To strengthen healthcare, the health department has set up a disaster management team and rapid response team at the civil hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi. These teams are working round the clock. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said medical officers will be available 24×7 to ensure effective healthcare in the flood-affected areas.

Recently, Civil Surgeon Dr Harpal Singh visited Baupur Jadid to assess the health conditions of the area. During the visit, he also inspected a medical camp set up at Ahli Kalan School to provide healthcare facilities to the local residents. During the visit, Dr Singh interacted with the medical team and reviewed the availability and stock of medicines. He directed that there should be no shortage of medicines or medical treatment for the public and any urgent requirement of medicines should be met immediately. He also appealed to the local residents to drink boiled water, maintain proper hygiene and contact the health department immediately in case of symptoms like diarrhoea, fever or skin problems.
