Successful operation of small boy’s hernia, Chirayu scheme gave new life
Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. Health check-up is being done in Anganwadi centers by 7 Viva teams in district Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, health benefits are being given to the identified children. Chirayu team found 1-year-old child Ved Prakash, who was suffering from hernia, in village Amjhar of Sarangarh tehsil. Due to hernia, there is a visible swelling or bulge in the groin (the area between the abdomen and the thigh) or the scrotum when crying or straining the abdomen. While bathing babies, it may be noticed incidentally and when the baby is resting, the bulge may subside or may not be visible at all. This swelling is usually not permanent and does not cause any problem to the child.
Hernia is the most common surgical problem in children. It occurs in 1-4 children. Around 80-90 cases of inguinal hernia appear in boys. It is most often on the right side, but in about 10 percent of cases, it is on both sides. Hernia problems are more common in premature babies. In most children, hernias appear within two years of birth, but hernias can appear in later years as well.
