Strong storm in Hyderabad, relief from heat

Hyderabad: After several days of scorching heat, several places in Hyderabad witnessed heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms from Friday night to Saturday morning. The strong but short-lived thunderstorm brought relief to Hyderabadis who were reeling under the heat for a long time. Based on rainfall data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between 8.30 pm on Friday and 7 am on Saturday, University of Hyderabad (Serilingampally mandal) received 54.5 mm rainfall, followed by Allapur, Vivekananda Nagar (Kukatpalli mandal) in Medchal-Malkajgiri district which received 508 mm rainfall.

According to TSDPS data, other areas in Hyderabad that received rainfall include Madhapur (48.8 mm), Khairtabad (48.5 mm), Rajendranagar (47.5 mm), Gachibowli (45.8 mm), Kapra (39.3 mm) and Alwal (35.8 mm). According to the report, apart from the thunderstorm, hailstorms were also witnessed along with heavy rains in many areas of Banjara Hills, Miyapur, Telapur, Gachibowli. On an average, the spell of thunderstorms lasted for 30 to 40 minutes in one area and then lost its intensity.
