Stresses the importance of revenue collection for the development of Sikkim

GangtokGangtok, : Coordination-cum-revenue meeting for Namchi District Circle was held at Namchi today. The meeting was chaired by MLA and Advisor to Power Department Sanjit Kharel, attended by Power Secretary (Revenue), Principal Chief Engineer (Revenue) and key officials of Power Department.
At the outset, Principal Chief Engineer (Revenue) T.T. Bhutia gave a detailed presentation on revenue and energy consumption of Namchi Circle, providing valuable information about the current status of both.
Secretary (Revenue) Bikash Dekota highlighted the importance of effective revenue realization in maintaining the financial health of the State. He said installation of smart meters is imminent, which will significantly improve energy management, streamline revenue collection, reduce revenue leakage and contribute to the overall efficiency of the system.
Advisor Sanjit Kharel emphasized the important role of revenue collection in the development and progress of the State. He emphasised that generating and managing revenue is essential not only to maintain and upgrade the state’s infrastructure but also to support ongoing and future development projects. Kharel reiterated that a consistent and robust revenue stream ensures uninterrupted supply of electricity to every household and supports the vision of a prosperous and self-reliant Sikkim.
Kharel underlined the importance of involving local communities in understanding the importance of revenue payments. He recommended providing a 15-day reconciliation period to rural areas to ensure that residents fully understand the value of contributing to the state’s revenue system. He said this would not only lead to better compliance but also develop a deeper understanding of the critical role of revenue in the state’s development.
Further, Kharel urged all Superintending Engineers (SEs) and Divisional Engineers (DEs) to engage with communities directly to educate them about the revenue collection process and address any concerns. He also appreciated all the officers from A to D grade for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that electricity reaches every corner of Sikkim while assisting in revenue collection efforts. Additionally, Kharel emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in offices, office toilets and premises.
With regard to Namchi District Circle, Kharel directed the team to work diligently especially towards revenue collection. He emphasized the need for increased efforts and efficiency to improve revenue generation in this area.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Engineer and other concerned officers of the department including SE, DE, AE, JE, Demand Clerk, Meter Reader and Revenue Supervisor of Namchi Circle.
