Tamil Nadu: Chennai Meteorological Department has warned that 13 districts including Chennai will receive heavy to very heavy rains as Cyclone Benzal is about to make landfall. Cyclone Benzal, which has formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to hit the coast soon. The storm is going to hit between Karaikal-Mamallapuram near Puducherry. Currently, the storm is 90 km from Chennai, 50 km from Mamallapuram and 80 km from Puducherry.

The speed of this storm is gradually decreasing. Last night, the storm came towards the coast at a speed of 15 km per hour. This morning it slowed down to 13 km and later to 10 km. Now the speed of the storm approaching the coast has slowed down even more. The storm is currently moving slowly at a speed of 7 km per hour.

It is expected that when the storm hits the ground, the maximum winds can blow at a speed of 90 km / h. Meanwhile, 13 districts including Chennai will receive heavy to very heavy rains, the press release issued by the Meteorological Department in this regard said:, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur. , Kanchipuram, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu districts including Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Puducherry are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains. Similarly, moderate rains are expected in districts including Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Salem, Namakkal. Also, light rains are likely in Erode, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Pudukottai districts.
