STNM Hospital to strengthen support system for college students undergoing medical treatment.
GANGTOK: As per the direction of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), a delegation led by TsheringWangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary (Gangtok District) to the Chief Minister, held a productive meeting with the senior administration of New STNM Hospital to discuss measures aimed at improving institutional support for college students undergoing medical treatment.
A press release on Tuesday informs that the delegation comprised Bhim Kumari Sharma, chairperson-cum-vice president, SKM Students’ Wing; DawaNamgyalBhutia, vice convenor, SKM Students’ Wing; TashiTsheringBhutia; and ZigmeeGurung, executive members of the students’ wing.
The hospital administration was represented by Dr. Suresh MadanRasaily, Principal Director; Dr. B.B. Bista, Principal Chief Consultant-cum-Director (Administration); Chumsang Dem Bhutia, Nursing Superintendent; SusmitaRai, Nursing Administration Section; PhurbaLhamuBhutia, Nursing Superintendent; and Eyeungmit Lepcha, Hospital Administrator.
The meeting focused on introducing a dedicated data collection mechanism for college students admitted as patients at New STNM Hospital. The delegation proposed that, in addition to the existing patient registration system, the hospital maintain a separate database capturing details such as the student’s name, age, educational institution, and college.
This initiative is intended to facilitate better coordination with educational institutions and enable timely assistance and welfare support for students undergoing medical treatment, the release mentions.
The delegation highlighted that maintaining such a database would help identify student patients more efficiently and allow concerned authorities and institutions to extend appropriate support whenever required. The initiative reflects the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that students receive both quality healthcare and necessary institutional assistance during periods of illness.
Responding positively to the proposal, Dr. Suresh MadanRasailystated that the initiative is innovative and has the potential to become a model for student-centric healthcare administration. He remarked that such a dedicated data collection system for student patients would be one of the first of its kind in the country’s hospital administrative framework, significantly benefiting students and strengthening coordination between hospitals and educational institutions.
Dr.Rasaily, along with Dr. B.B. Bista, assured the delegation that the hospital administration would initiate the necessary administrative process and issue an official notification at the earliest to operationalize this noble initiative at New STNM Hospital.
The delegation expressed its sincere gratitude to the hospital administration for their positive response and commitment towards implementing this student welfare measure. The initiative stands as another step towards realizing the Chief Minister’s vision of a responsive, compassionate, and student-friendly governance system, where the well-being of every student remains a priority, the release mentions.
After the meeting, the STNM Hospital management issued an office order for record maintenance of college students during admission in the hospital.
“Effectively immediately, all administrative and clinical staff must maintain exhaustive accurate record for all college students admitted as in-patients. There will be zero tolerance for incomplete files or missing documentation,” reads the office order from the STNM Hospital Director.
The hospital staffs were directed to collect and verify valid identification at the time of admission and to mark the patient file clearly as “College Student In-Patient” in the hospital information system.
