Southern Railway changes several trains due to engineering work
Chennai: Temporary changes have been made in the operation of several passenger and express trains in view of the proposed engineering and track maintenance works at various locations under Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) division of Southern Railway. Keeping in mind the safety of passengers and modernization of railway tracks, the Railway Administration has announced partial cancellation of some trains, change in the start and end station of some and delay in operation and diversion of some trains.
In this regard, Public Relations Officer of Trichy Division of Southern Railway, R. Vinoth has issued a press release advising passengers to get information about the status of the train before travelling. According to Railways, this decision has been taken to complete the necessary engineering works in a safe and timely manner.
Operation of many trains will be affected
Railway administration said that this will affect the operation of many important trains passing through Villupuram division. Some trains will run only for a part of the scheduled route, while the end station of some trains has been temporarily changed.
Tambaram-Villupuram passenger train partially cancelled.
Tambaram–Villupuram passenger train (No. 66045) has been partially canceled between Mundiyambakkam and Villupuram on 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 25 and 29 July. On these dates this train will not reach Villupuram and will terminate its journey at Mundiyambakkam station only.
Changes in Kakinada Port-Puducherry Girgaon Express
Kakinada Port Junction–Puducherry Girgaum Express (Train No. 17655) has been partially canceled between Chengalpattu and Puducherry on 11 and 13 July. As a result, this train will operate only up to Chengalpattu station and will not go further to Puducherry.
Dindigul-Villupuram Express also affected
The operation of Dindigul–Villupuram Express (Train No. 16868) will be affected on 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18 July. These days this train will not run between Vriddhachalam and Villupuram. The train will operate only up to Vriddhachalam station.
Changes in operation of Tirupati–Puducherry Express
The operation of Tirupati–Puducherry Express (train number 16111) has also been changed for several days.
This train will not run between Villupuram and Puducherry on 8th, 25th and 29th July.
This train will be partially canceled between Mundiyambakkam and Puducherry on 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18 July.
On these dates, passengers will have to use alternative transport systems.
Changes in Kachiguda-Puducherry Express also
Kachiguda–Puducherry Express (Train No. 17653) has been partially canceled between Chengalpattu and Puducherry on July 12. On this day the train will operate only up to Chengalpattu.
New Delhi-Puducherry Express also affected
New Delhi–Puducherry Express (train number 22404) has also been partially canceled between Villupuram and Puducherry on July 12. Due to this, passengers traveling by this train may have to change their travel itinerary.
Decision taken due to engineering works
Southern Railway has clarified that all these changes are being made to safely complete track maintenance, track renewal and other engineering works. Railways says that such work is necessary from time to time so that the operation of trains remains more safe and smooth.
According to railway officials, during these works, there may be changes in the route of some trains, delay in operation of some trains and some services may also be stopped temporarily. Therefore, passengers are advised to check the updated status of their train before starting the journey.
Appeal made to passengers
Southern Railway has requested the passengers to get the latest train information from the official website of the Railways, NTES (National Train Inquiry System), Railway Helpline 139 or the respective railway stations before travelling. This will help them avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
The railway administration has also assured that normal operation of all train services will be restored after the completion of the engineering work. At present, an appeal has been made to the passengers to maintain cooperation and patience, so that the necessary maintenance work can be completed on time and railway services can become more safe and reliable in future.
