Son of PMK Leader Murdered in Karur – Two Youths Arrested
Tamil Nadu: On Thursday, the police arrested two youths who had hacked to death the son of a PMK district leader using an axe near Karur.
The victim was Kavin (24), the son of a woman from Velliyanai Vijayapuram near Karur, who serves as the PMK’s Karur District President. Kavin worked at a mobile phone shop in Karur alongside two friends; both friends hailed from the same locality and were aged 17 and 16, respectively. It is reported that a few days prior, an altercation had broken out between them while they were under the influence of alcohol.
As was his daily routine, Kavin finished work around 1:00 AM on Wednesday night and began heading towards Vijayapuram. When he reached a spot known as ‘Mattaparai,’ two boys standing there allegedly blocked his path and began arguing with him.
During the altercation, Kavin, in a fit of rage, went home, retrieved a sickle, and attempted to attack one of the boys. When they tried to restrain him, one of the boys sustained an injury to his hand.
Subsequently, the two boys—who had reportedly been lying in wait—tackled Kavin to the ground. They then snatched the sickle from his grasp and used it to inflict multiple blows upon him, killing him on the spot. Critically injured, Kavin died at the scene. Following the incident, the two boys fled the crime scene.
Upon receiving the information, the Velliyanai police immediately rushed to the site, recovered Kavin’s body, and sent it to the Karur Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Furthermore, after registering a case regarding the incident, the police arrested the two minors on Thursday; they were found hiding in the Sukkaliyur area. They were subsequently produced before the Criminal Magistrate Court in Karur. Acting on the court’s orders, both minors were sent to a juvenile reformatory in Trichy.
