‘Skills’ scheme in government schools: Education department seeks detailed report

Tamil Nadu: Principal Education Officers have been ordered to submit a detailed report on the activities and results of the skills development program implemented for students lagging in academic performance in Tamil Nadu government schools on April 27th and 28th.

An educational development project called ‘Taran’ was implemented in Tamil Nadu government schools to identify slow learners in grades 6th to 9th and provide them with special training in English, Tamil, and mathematics to bridge the learning gap. These students were trained through special classes and special question papers. A circular sent by the Directorate of School Education to Principal Education Officers states:

The ‘Skills’ project report implemented in schools should be submitted in person to the Joint Director of School Education (Vocational Education) by the Orientation Assistants of Primary Education Officers on April 27th and 28th.

The report should include details of training provided to teachers to train students in the skill program, details of training books provided to skill program students, monthly meetings held to implement the program, and details of visits made to students by the district and local level management team.
