Six crore rupees stolen from ships, Sewri police register case against 11 people
Maharashtra: Sewri police have registered a case against 11 people for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 6 crore to a New Delhi-based company by tampering with material from two ships of the company. Police said that a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust has been registered on the complaint of a Haryana businessman and further investigation is on in the matter. Kiran Resources, the company of which complainant Mridul Thirani is a director, had submitted a tender to Mumbai Port Trust in 2017 for a floating restaurant. According to the complaint, Thirani’s company had given the work to a specialist company as it had no experience in ship management.
After this, the complainant’s company imported two ships. These ships were named ‘Seya’ and ‘Neverland’. Both the ships were placed at Indira Gate in 2017 The Customs Department issued a memo on November 25, 2020. Under this, a fine of Rs 9 crore was imposed on the company and a ‘show cause’ notice was issued and then it was shut down. When the complainants went to Haji Bunder to inspect the ships in January 2023, they noticed that the air conditioning system, decoration material, sound system, hydraulic pumps, anchors, CCTV cameras, batteries, etc. were missing. Therefore, they lodged a complaint with the Sewri police in this regard recently. The police have registered a case against 11 people, including the captain of the management company. The police are investigating the matter further.
