Sikkim: PM Narendra Modi inaugurates various development projects in Sikkim

Sikkim: On April 28, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the grand closing ceremony of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the state of Sikkim in Gangtok, Sikkim.

The ceremony was held at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

On this occasion, he also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore in the Northeast.

These projects focus on infrastructure, connectivity, tourism, healthcare, and urban development.

In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital in Yangang, Namchi district.

He also inaugurated a 30-bed integrated Sowa Rigpa hospital at NIT Deorali.

Several institutions and facilities were inaugurated in the field of education.

These include the permanent campus of Sikkim University at Yangang, the administrative block of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence at Chakung, the Helen Lepcha Medical College at Socheygang in Gangtok district, and the Dentam Professional College at Dentam in Gyalshing district.

A Model Residential School was also inaugurated at Gyathang, a Model Degree College at Mangshila in Mangan district, and a monastic hostel-cum-classroom at Bumtar Gumpa in Namchi district.

In addition, IT-based infrastructure projects were launched in 160 schools.

Inaugurated an Indoor Cricket Academy at Rangpo in Pakyong district of Sikkim, and virtually launched five more state-of-the-art academies at Doimukh (Arunachal Pradesh), Imphal (Manipur), Madankurklang (Meghalaya), Aizawl (Mizoram), and Sovima in Chumoukedima district near Dimapur (Nagaland).

In the area of ​​urban development, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Jan Seva Sachivalaya (Mini Secretariat) in Lumsey and the Civil Services Officers Institute in Gangtok.
In the tourism sector, several projects were inaugurated, including the redevelopment of the Ridge area in Gangtok, eco-tourism and pilgrimage facilities in Dodak in Soreng, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra-related facilities at 18th Mile and Hangu Lake, and a pilgrim hostel at Krishna Pranami Mangaldham in Namphang.
In addition, an eco-pilgrimage complex was announced in Silnon in Gyalshing district.
In the agriculture sector, the Sikkim IFFCO processing plant was inaugurated to support farmers and improve agro-processing.
