Siddique elected AMMA general secretary; Jagadhish, Jayan Cherthala chosen vice presidents

KOCHI: Actor Siddique has been elected as the general secretary of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Kuku Parameswaran and Unni Sivapal contested against Siddique. Jagadish and Jayan Cherthala have been chosen as vice presidents. Manju Pillai was also in the race. Most probably that there will be an official announcement. The counting of votes for the executive committee is progressing. Mohanlal was re-elected to the post of president unopposed. Unni Mukundan was also elected unopposed as the treasurer.
The contest was between Baburaj and Anoop Chandran for the joint secretary’s post. 12 contested for the 11-member executive. As per AMMA’s constitution, four out of the 17 office bearers should be women. Mammootty could not attend as he is in UK. Union minister and actor Suresh Gopi arrived just before the voting ended at 1 pm.The annual general body meet of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is held at the Gokulam Convention Centre at Kaloor in Ernakulam.

Mohanlal is serving the post for the third time in a row. It was reported that Kuku Parameswaran, Jayan Cherthala and Anoop Chandran submitted nomination papers for the post of president but withdrew it later by the intervention of their colleagues. Mohanlal expressed his desire to quit, but yielded to the love of his colleagues. There was no one against Unni Mukundan.
What makes this election notable is that Idavela Babu is stepping down from the general secretary post after 25 years. He has been at the helm of the third governing body since the formation of AMMA in 1994.
