Siddaramaiah criticizes BJP for politicizing the incident of stripping of Belagavi woman
Dharwad: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday criticized the BJP and party national president JP Nadda for trying to take political advantage of the Belagavi incident in which a woman was stripped after her son eloped with a girl from the same community. He was taken, paraded around and whipped. And called it ‘shameful’.
Speaking to reporters at Hubli airport, Siddaramaiah condemned the heinous violence. The Chief Minister said that the government has acted as per legal procedures.
“The Home Minister met the victim in the hospital soon after the incident and the accused were arrested. However, the BJP chief is politicizing the issue. BJP leaders should examine the National Crime Bureau data to understand the incidents of atrocities against women and the BJP government in the state,” she said.
Siddaramaiah also drew attention to a BJP MLA convicted of raping a minor in Uttar Pradesh.
“What does Nadda have to say about this?” I have asked.
He said, “The accused in the Belagavi incident should be given maximum punishment and such incidents should not happen in a civilized society, no matter which government is in power.
