Shimla News: 450 dangerous trees identified in Shimla

Shimla: More than 450 dangerous and dry trees are posing a threat to the residents of the capital Shimla. Residents say that they have submitted requests to the concerned authorities to cut down the dangerous trees across the city. Most of the complaints have been received from New Shimla, Khalini, Kanlog, Patiyog, Summer Hill, Bhatta Kuffar, Nabha and Fagli wards of Shimla Municipal Corporation. Many residents claim that they had lodged complaints about the dangerous trees long ago, but no action has been taken yet. Recently, a tree committee led by Mayor Surender Chauhan visited various residential areas of the city and identified dangerous trees. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Shimla (Urban), Pawan Chauhan said that the tree committee is visiting the areas from where complaints have been received. He said that after identifying the dangerous trees a report will be submitted to the sub-committee of the state government. Further action will be taken after this, the DFO said. Heavy rains in the state capital have closed several roads for traffic. Two trees were uprooted in Vijaynagar area and one on Himland-Khalini link road. Roads and drains were inundated, causing trouble to locals as well as tourists. Rains started on Thursday morning and continued throughout the day. The Chakkar-Bilaspur road as well as the Taradevi-Totu road were blocked. The roads were later cleared by the district administration. According to the state meteorological department, light to moderate rain will continue in Shimla for the next 24 hours.
