Seven fishermen narrowly escape as trawler meets with accident in Devi River in Odisha’s Puri dist

Kakatpur: At least seven fishermen had a mere escape after a fishing trawler met with an accident in the Devi River in Puri district of Odisha on Monday night. The incident took place at the mouth of the Devi River in Astaranga area.

As per the sources, the fishermen were returning after fishing in the sea when the incident occurred while entering the river mouth. The fishing net got entangled in the trawler’s propeller, stopping the trawler from moving. Resultantly, the trawler lost control and hit a sand embankment, causing heavy damage to the fishing boat.

Following the mishap, other fisherman who had ventured to the sea for fishing, rushed to the spot in motorized boats and rescued all seven fishermen from the damaged trawler, preventing a major tragedy.

The locals and fishermen alleged that the Devi River mouth has turned risky while no action is being taken, leading to frequent mishaps and risk to the lives of fishermen.
