Seven accidents on Chennai-Bengaluru highway in one night, farmer killed

Vellore: There was a stir due to seven separate road accidents in a single night on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway passing through Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. In these accidents, a farmer died tragically, while many vehicles were damaged. After continuous accidents, the Highway Patrol Police has appealed to the drivers to be careful, follow the prescribed speed limit and drive with special caution at night.

The most serious accident happened to 30-year-old farmer Dinesh, resident of Poigai Mettur village of Virinchipuram police station area. According to the information, Dinesh had left for Vellore Mandi on a two-wheeler on Tuesday morning with three bags of vegetables grown in his farm. As usual, he was traveling through the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway to sell vegetables.

When Dinesh reached near Ajipura area, an unknown vehicle coming at high speed hit his motorcycle hard. The collision was so severe that Dinesh fell away on the road and suffered serious head injuries. After the accident, instead of stopping the vehicle, the accused driver fled from the spot.

Passersby immediately informed the Highway Patrol Police and local police about the incident. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and saw the injured farmer, but by then he had died. The police took the body into custody and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem. Virinchipuram police have registered a case against the unknown driver and started investigation. Police are trying to identify the absconding vehicle on the basis of footage from nearby CCTV cameras and other technical evidence.

Dinesh’s death has created a wave of mourning in his family and village. Villagers told that Dinesh used to support his family by farming and used to go to the local market every day to sell the vegetables grown in the fields. The family members are in distress due to the untimely death of the only earning member of the family.

Another major accident was averted on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway this night. A private passenger bus going from Bengaluru to Chennai, carrying over 50 passengers, met with an accident near Vallalar area of ​​Vellore. According to preliminary information, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, after which the bus collided with the safety barrier installed on the roadside.

The front part of the bus was damaged in the accident, but it is a matter of relief that none of the passengers were seriously injured. After the incident, there was chaos among the passengers for some time. All the passengers were evacuated safely with the help of local people and police. Later, arrangements for another vehicle were made and the passengers were sent to their destination. Sathuvachari police have started investigating the matter and the cause of the accident is being ascertained.

Apart from this, at midnight, two cars collided head-on in the Green Circle area of ​​Vellore. Both the vehicles suffered extensive damage due to the collision. However, there is no report of anyone being seriously injured in this accident. Police reached the spot and normalized the traffic and started investigating the cause of the accident.

According to the police, a total of seven separate road accidents were recorded on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. Most of these accidents occurred due to speeding, careless driving and low visibility at night. Frequent accidents have also raised questions on the highway safety system.

The Highway Patrol Police has appealed to all the drivers to take special care at night, follow the prescribed speed limit, be cautious while overtaking and not drive in a state of fatigue. Police also said that drivers of heavy vehicles should follow lane discipline and in case of any emergency, immediately inform the helpline.

Officials said that after identifying accident prone areas, plans are being made to deploy additional police forces there, increase patrolling and strengthen CCTV surveillance. Besides, the indicators, reflectors and warning boards installed on the road will also be reviewed so that such incidents can be reduced in future.

Local people have also demanded from the administration to strengthen the security arrangements on the highway, increase night patrolling and make additional lighting arrangements at accident prone places. He says that the movement of high speed vehicles is continuously increasing on this route, due to which the risk of accidents has also increased.

At present, in the case of the death of farmer Dinesh, the police is searching for the absconding driver, while separate investigations are going on in other road accidents. Seven accidents in a single night have raised serious concerns about road safety on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway.
