Sandeep Singh: A writer and broadcaster who shaped Punjab’s cultural landscape

Jalandhar: Sandeep Singh, Assistant Professor of Punjabi at Lyallpur Khalsa College, is a distinguished academician, a versatile personality and a seasoned broadcaster. A published author, Singh has made significant contributions to Punjabi literature with works such as Behraaf (2022) and Sifar (2025). Both books were published in the UK. His literary journey is deeply rooted in his family background—his father, who was a lyricist, and his uncle, who was a poet, provided him with an environment rich in books and words. “Books and words were always around me and naturally, their influence came into my life too,” Singh recalls. He adds, “I also believe that nature chooses you for a special purpose—Kudrat Vi Tuhanu Chundi Hai Khaas Kamm Lai.”
Known as a familiar voice on All India Radio Jalandhar for many years, Singh serves as the presenter of the popular programme Des Punjab. His work also extends beyond radio, having hosted several programmes for Doordarshan Kendra Jalandhar. Singh’s literary contributions also include articles, book reviews and poems, which have been published in various prestigious literary magazines and newspapers. In addition, Singh has also translated works of international significance, including Iraqi poems and Sri Lankan poets, which have been published in publications such as Akkhar and Desh Sewak. By seamlessly combining his roles in education, literature and broadcasting, Sandeep Singh has been instrumental in shaping the cultural and literary landscape of Punjab.
