Rourkela: Couple arrested for conning Rs 20 lakh from people in name of giving jobs
Rourkela: The Uditnagar police in Rourkela district have nabbed a woman and her husband for allegedly scamming lakhs of rupees from people in the name of giving jobs. The couple had conned people in the name of giving jobs as Sub-inspectors and clerks in the Rourkela and Sundargarh Court.
The woman has been identified as Laxmi Tanti. She has reportedly conned over Rs 20 lakh from people in the name of giving jobs. Police has also seized the offer letters of the concerned posts from the frauds.
According to information, they demanded Rs 1 lakh for clerical posts (junior clerk) and Rs 2 lakhs for giving appointment for the post of Sub-inspector of Court. For engaging a person as a peon in the court they demanded Rs 50,000. To gain the trust of their targets they assured them that they will receive training from the High Court.
The woman was studying in a law college based in Rourkela. They have conned around more than 15 youths from Badagaon, Jhirapani and nearby areas of Sundargarh district. Prior to giving the appointment letters they used to take advance.
It is worth mentioning here that, the woman was earlier arrested for defrauding Rs 30 lakh from people. The Bandhamunda police had arrested her earlier in this matter.
