Religion Desk: How did the tradition of offering Belpatra to Lord Shiva begin?

Religion Desk Religion Desk: According to the calendar, the month of Sawan (Sawan 2024) starts on 22 July and ends on 19 August. Shiva devotees eagerly await the month of Sawan. During this time, Mahadev, the God of Gods, is worshiped. He is also offered things that are dear to him. According to religious texts, when the sea, whose name was Kalkut, was churned, poison came out. Lord Shiva drank the Kalkut poison.

According to religious beliefs, due to the effect of this poison, Mahadev’s throat turned blue, due to which he was called Neelkanth.

Lord Shiva’s mind became hot due to the effect of Kalkut. In such a situation, to calm the mind of the Lord, the gods and goddesses offered him water. Belpatra is also offered because the effect of Belpatra is cold. It is believed that since then the practice of offering Prasad to Mahadev during Belpatra Puja started. With this, the seeker gets the blessings of God.

First of all apply Tilak to Mahadev.

After this, offer Belpatra, fruits, flowers, cannabis and dhatura.

Light a lamp, perform aarti and offer your favorite things.

According to religious texts, it is forbidden to offer Belpatra on some important dates. These include Chaturthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chaturdashi and Amavasya dates. In such a situation, pick Belpatra a day before these dates and keep it for worship.
