Rare species of reptiles seized at Bhubaneswar Airport, see detailed list here

Bhubaneswar: In a major seize of rare species of reptiles was made at the Bhubaneswar Airports by the Customs Department on Saturday, said reliable reports.

According to reports monitor lizards, snakes and tortoise were seized from Bhubaneswar airport. At the Biju Patnaik International in the arrivals from Hongkong the Customs Department intercepted one person.

The youth had brought nine rare snakes, tec rare garden lizards and 12 rare tortoise in his luggage for sale. The youth was caught by the Customs Department during the check.

The youth has been identified as Shankar Murugan from Tamil Nadu. Following the reptile seize at Bhubaneswar Airports, the Customs Department has seized his passport. From the information available, the rare reptiles were brought to Bhubaneswar for sale in various places in Odisha.

It is worth mentioning that, the initial investigation has revealed that the entire seize is linked to a businessman in the Patia area. The Forest Department is investigating who brought them to Bhubaneswar and why.

The Forest Department informed that the rescued rare snakes, rare turtles, and monitor lizards will be kept in Nandankanan Zoological Park.
