Ranya Rao gold smuggling case: Actress fined Rs 102.55 crore

Bengaluru: As per latest reports Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been fined Rs 102.55 crore by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for her involvement in the gold smuggling case.
Actress Rao, the step-daughter of senior IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao, was arrested in March for smuggling 14.8 kg of gold worth crores from Dubai into Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport.
However, the DRI investigation further revealed a larger racket working behind, with Rao allegedly coordinating the smuggling operation and using police escorts to avoid customs screenings.
Along with Rao, three others were also fined, with penalties ranging from Rs 53 crore to Rs 63 crore.
The accused are currently lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
