Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin dies of heart attack
Chennai: Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin Santhan has died in the hospital. He died during treatment in the hospital. This information has been given by the hospital administration. The interesting fact is that Santhan died in the Chennai government hospital named after former PM Rajiv Gandhi, whom he had assassinated. Rajiv’s killer Santhan was convicted by the court in the murder case, but was later released. 55-year-old Santhan was admitted to the hospital in January after liver failure. He was suffering from some other diseases.
Dean of the hospital, Dr. E Theranirajan, said that Santhan’s condition had remained critical ever since he was admitted. After this, due to his illness, he suffered cardiac arrest on Wednesday morning, due to which he died. He said that after the cardiac arrest, it was initially thought that he would recover, but he could not be saved. Santhan was given death sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, which was later commuted to life imprisonment. Not only this, in November 2022 itself, 5 other murderers including Santhan were also released. All these people had served a jail sentence of about 32 years.
Even after their release, these people were kept in the special campus of Trichy Central Jail. The reason for this was that they were originally citizens of Sri Lanka and they neither had a passport nor travel documents. Santhan had filed an application in the Madras High Court demanding that arrangements be made to send him to Sri Lanka because he wanted to meet his elderly mother. However, before any decision could be taken on this, Santhan himself died after a long illness.
