Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict gets document to return to Sri Lanka

Tiruchi: The Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) of the Union Ministry of External Affairs has issued an emergency travel document for Santhan, one of the freed convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, facilitating his immediate deportation to Sri Lanka. Santhan, who is currently lodged in the special camp of Tiruchi Central Jail, will be taken to the international airport here by the authorities.

Acting on Santhan’s request, the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission had earlier issued him a temporary travel document and now the FRRO has granted the exit permit.
“Once Santhan books the ticket, he will be deported. The district administration has been instructed to take them to the airport,” collector M Pradeep Kumar told TNIE.
