Rajasthan High Court gives blow to Asaram Bapu, dismisses petition to ban Manoj Bajpayee’s film

Jaipur (IANS) | The Rajasthan High Court has dismissed the plea of jailed Baba Asaram Bapu, seeking a stay on the release of Manoj Bajpayee starrer film ‘Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai’ in theaters and on OTT platforms. Jailed Asaram had sought a stay on the release of the film, earlier produced and directed by Zee5 Studios with Om Prakash Lakhani.

The petition alleged that it was based on his life without his permission and showed him in a negative manner.

Dismissing the petition, Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati said, “After watching the trailer of the film, it can be clearly said that the petitioner no. 2 has nothing to do with it.” Therefore, the petitioners have not been able to do so prima facie to persuade this Court to pass any interim injunction order with respect to this film.

The Justice further said that the release of the film cannot be stayed, as the film has already been released and since the petitioners have not filed their case in time. Giving stay will cause huge financial loss to the producers of the film.

During the hearing on Friday, the petitioner’s counsel argued that Asaram’s reputation and his privacy rights have been violated by the film, as it allegedly portrays him as a villainous character named Ravana who has committed heinous crimes. .

On the other hand, the counsel for the respondents submitted that there is a clear disclaimer in the opening part of the film that it is a work of fiction inspired by real life events.
