Rajasthan: 81.38% voting took place in Karanpur elections

Jaipur: More than 80 per cent voter participation was recorded in Rajasthan’s Karanpur assembly elections, where minister Surendra Pal Singh is in the race as the BJP candidate, according to officials. Voting, which started at 7 in the morning, ended peacefully till 7 in the evening. Officials said on Saturday that the counting of votes will be completed on January 8 at Bhimrao Ambedkar Government College, Sriganganagar. Voting for 199 out of 200 assembly seats in the state ended on November 25. In Karanpur, the election was postponed due to the death of Congress candidate and MLA Gurmeet Singh Kunar. Congress put Cooner’s son Rupinder Singh on the stage. Election Director Praveen Gupta said that the final voting percentage in Karanpur electoral district was recorded at 81.38 percent. According to officials, Karanpur has 2,40,826 voters (1,25,850 men, 1,14,966 women and 10 transgender people). Surendra Pal Singh has been included in the Rajasthan Cabinet after BJP secured 115 out of 199 seats in the assembly elections. Congress has criticized his inclusion in the cabinet and called it a violation of the model code of conduct. As per rules, after becoming a minister, Surendra Pal Singh has six months to get elected as an assembly member.
