Raipur police crack down on drunk drivers, taking action against 130

Raipur. A campaign is being run from a safety perspective on the occasion of Holi festival. In view of the danger posed to self and other pedestrians and the possibility of road accidents due to drunken driving in the city, on the instructions of Vikas Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic and Protocol, to take strict action against drivers driving under the influence of alcohol, under the guidance of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Shukla and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic/Protocol Daulat Ram Porte, 42 checking points have been set up in all the police station areas of traffic under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police Satish Thakur, Surendra Sai Paikra, Ramesh Yerewar, Gurjeet Singh and Mrs. Seema Ahirwar. At all the checking points, the checking officers conducted an intensive checking campaign from evening till late night with the help of breath analyzer machines.
During the checking process, the drivers were checked for alcohol consumption with the breath analyzer machine. During the inspection, 130 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicles seized included 39 cars, 73 motorcycles, 03 trucks, 15 Tata S pickup trucks, and e-rickshaws. Action was taken against them by seizing the vehicles under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicles have been parked for security at the Traffic Headquarters premises and traffic police stations. The cases in which action has been taken will be presented to the Honorable Court after Holi, where the Honorable Court imposes fines ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 rupees per case for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Under the direction of Police Commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Shukla and the guidance of Vikas Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic and Protocol, strict action will be taken against those driving under the influence of alcohol by regularly setting up checking points, especially at night, until Holi.
