Rainfall to continue in Jammu and Kashmir till May 20: Meteorological Department

Srinagar: The Meteorological Department on Wednesday predicted light rain, thundershowers, and strong winds at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days.
The MeT department has advised people to avoid boating and Shikara rides during the afternoon due to the possibility of strong winds and lightning.
According to MeT Srinagar, the maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 10.2 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature in Qazigund was 22.4 degrees Celsius, 17 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, and 13.4 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg.
In the Jammu division, the maximum temperature in Jammu city was recorded at 34.7 degrees Celsius, while Katra recorded 31.4 degrees Celsius and Banihal 20.6 degrees Celsius. The MeT office said that light rain and thundershowers are likely at many places in Jammu and Kashmir on May 14, along with thunderstorms and strong winds at a few places during the afternoon, while light rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places between May 15 and 16.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph at some places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
“People are advised not to undertake boating and Shikara riding during the afternoon and late evening,” the advisory said.
