Railway police rescued 12 passengers, including 8 children, in the northeast.

Assam: Officials said that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 12 vulnerable passengers, including eight minors, during a series of coordinated operations conducted at various stations between January 24 and January 28.

According to NFR, these rescue operations were conducted as part of routine surveillance and in response to RailMadad complaints at stations under its jurisdiction. Those rescued included runaway minor boys and girls, destitute children, and unaccompanied passengers found traveling alone or in distress.

Major rescue operations were carried out at Falakata, Lumding, Kishanganj, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kamakhya, Katihar (East), and Guwahati railway stations.

Officials said that all the rescued minors were handed over to the respective Childline units and recognized child care organizations as per established procedures. The four rescued adults were handed over to local police authorities for further necessary action.

Railway officials stated that these timely interventions highlight the vigilance, compassion, and coordination of RPF personnel in ensuring passenger safety, especially for vulnerable groups like children.

The Northeast Frontier Railway reiterated its commitment to safe and people-centric railway operations and urged passengers to immediately inform RPF personnel or use RailMadad if they notice any unaccompanied minor or suspicious situation within railway premises.
