QS Ranking – VIT University ranked 119th in Engineering and Technology

Tamil Nadu: In the QS World University Rankings by Subject, VIT University has moved up to 119th place worldwide in the Engineering and Technology category.

Global higher education analytics firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds has released its 2026 International University Subject Rankings. These results were released after analyzing over 18,300 courses offered by more than 1,700 universities in 100 regions around the world. In this 2026 edition, VIT University, Vellore has been ranked among the world’s leading universities in 17 subject areas.

Regarding this, VIT Chancellor Go. Viswanathan said:

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject, VIT University has moved up 23 places from last year to 119th place worldwide in Engineering and Technology. It has also achieved sixth place in the overall rankings in India. It secured 86th position in Computer Science and Information Systems and 87th position in Electrical and Electronics, placing it in the top 100. It is ranked in the top 200 in Mathematics, 104th in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, 101-200 in Materials Science, 137th in Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing, and 148th in Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing.

At the Indian level, it is ranked 3rd in the Art and Design category, 6th in Computer Science and Information Systems and Electrical and Electronics, 5th in Mathematics, and 7th in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

For the first time, Art and Design has been ranked 201-300 in the subject category, and Civil Engineering has been ranked 201-275.

Similarly, it ranks 201-250 in the Chemical Subject category, 251-300 in the Chemistry and Physics and Astronomy Subject category, 251-275 in Statistics and Operations Research, 301-350 in Biological Sciences, 351-400 in Environmental Sciences, 401-475 in Agriculture and Forestry, 451-500 in Business Management Studies, and 551-600 in the Medical Subject category.

The university’s teaching, research, and global collaboration are key factors in the QS rankings. The contributions and collaborative efforts of everyone, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni, are also key factors in the ranking improvement.

He also said that the improvement in the ranking reflects the continuous investment made by VIT University in collaboration with research and industry institutions and curriculum design keeping in mind the future needs.
