Punjab: Youth arrested with heroin, uncle absconding

Punjab: Police today arrested Sikandar Khan, a youth from Gudiya village in Hanumangarh, when he returned from Amritsar with 251 grams of heroin. However, his uncle Ahmed Nawaz managed to escape. According to police records, 35 criminal cases are registered against Ahmed Nawaz, including offences under the NDPS Act. Hanumangarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arshad Ali said that Ahmed Nawaz, also known as ‘Chidiya’, is currently absconding. Nawaz, a notorious criminal with a history of involvement in assault, Arms Act and drug-related crimes, is well known to law enforcement agencies. The SP said that for some time, the authorities were getting information about a drug smuggling network in Gudiya village.

In which local youths were involved, who were buying and selling heroin on a large scale. These youths were also allegedly instigating other people in the area to consume drugs at their homes. Based on this intelligence, the police were keeping a close watch on the suspected drug dealers. Police said Sikandar Khan and his uncle Ahmed Nawaz not only sold heroin from their house in Gudiya but also used a nearby room as a meeting point for drug addicts. The house was frequented by drug peddlers and addicts, with motorcycles and vehicles often parked outside. In a separate room, Sikandar Khan was seen selling heroin after weighing it on an electronic scale.

Police today released several videos showing Sikandar Khan’s involvement in drug-related transactions. These videos, recorded secretly some time ago, have provided crucial evidence of his illegal activities. After the release of the footage, police raided the hideouts of Sikandar Khan and Ahmed Nawaz several times, but this is the first time Sikandar has been arrested. Police said Sikandar Khan had gone to Amritsar the previous day to buy heroin from a dealer named Sukhjinder Singh. The police team, which was monitoring his movements, followed him on his return journey. As soon as Sikandar reached his house, police raided the premises and arrested him; however, his uncle managed to escape.
