Punjab: Women queue up for caste certificates ahead of scheme launch

Punjab: Long queues of women in Punjab have formed for caste certificates (caste certificates) ahead of the launch of the Chief Minister’s Maawan Dhyan Satkar Yojana. According to government data and local officials, women waited for hours to update their documents and obtain new certificates to avail benefits under the scheme. The Chief Minister’s Maawan Dhyan Satkar Yojana aims to provide financial assistance, social security, and employment opportunities to women. A caste certificate is mandatory for inclusion in the list of beneficiaries. This has led to a sudden increase in the number of applications for the certificates even before the scheme’s launch.

Local administrations made special arrangements to manage queues. Additional staff were deployed in several government offices, and efforts were made to simplify the online application process. Officials say the popularity of the scheme and awareness among women have led to this massive rush. Local women told the media that the benefits of the scheme will assist them in areas such as education, health, and employment. Many women said that previously, they were unable to access government schemes due to lack of caste certificates. Applying for this scheme will now improve their situation.
The state government has appealed to citizens to be patient during the document verification and application process. Officials stated that all eligible women will receive benefits and there will be no irregularities. Furthermore, the government stated that the process has been simplified for those applying digitally. Experts believe that this scheme is expected to improve the social and economic status of women. The scheme aims not only to provide financial assistance but also to empower women and provide them with easier access to government services. This requires pre-fulfillment of requirements such as caste certificates.
Despite the government’s preparations and administrative efforts, long waits in queues were common. Many women arrived early in the morning to secure their seats, and some waited throughout the day. The local administration also reported that police and other personnel were deployed to manage queues and maintain security. Under the Chief Minister’s Maawan Dhyan Satkar Yojana, beneficiary women will receive a number of benefits, including education, health, self-employment, and social security. After fulfilling the caste certificate requirements, women will be directly included in the list of beneficiaries under the scheme. This entire episode has made it clear that awareness and interest in government schemes has increased significantly among women in Punjab. Experts say that maintaining a balance between administrative and digital processes is essential for the successful implementation of such schemes.
