Punjab: Violence in love triangle dispute, 2 people dead

Punjab: Two young men lost their lives in two separate incidents in Faridkot and Moga districts, allegedly related to illicit relationships, raising concerns about rising violence stemming from personal conflicts. In the first incident, a 26-year-old man from Kingra village in Faridkot died while undergoing treatment. Ten days earlier, he had been brutally attacked by relatives of a married woman with whom he was reportedly in a relationship. The deceased, Buta Singh (26), was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the alleged attack on the night of January 31st. He died from his injuries on Thursday. According to the victim’s family, Buta Singh was called to the woman’s home under the pretext of a meeting. His brother alleged that when Buta arrived, the woman’s husband, Amar Singh, was already present with some friends. The deceased’s brother claimed, “They first hit him on the head, causing him to faint. Then they tied him to a pole and beat him severely. A hot iron rod was allegedly used to torture him.”
The family further alleged that when Boota did not return home, they found him tied to a pole in critical condition at the woman’s house. With police help, he was taken to the hospital, where he was treated until his death. In a separate incident, a man was allegedly shot dead in a similar altercation in Kaila village, in Moga’s Dharamkot subdivision, today. The deceased, Bharpur Singh, was shot in the head with a licensed .32 bore revolver and died on the spot. According to Dharamkot DSP Jaswinder Singh, the accused, Inderjit Singh, reportedly a neighbor of the victim, was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident and fled after firing the shot. Initial investigations indicate that Inderjit Singh was allegedly having an illicit relationship with the victim’s wife. When Bharpur Singh objected and prevented him from entering his home, tensions escalated, ultimately leading to a fatal shooting. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and launched a search operation to apprehend the accused, who remains at large.
