Punjab: Villagers express concern over excess supply, urge donors to hold off for now

Punjab: Any day at Baupur dam, one can witness a wonderful sight, a mountain-high pile of water bottles, fodder and ration packets kept in tents on the roadside. The water has started receding in the flood-affected villages of Sultanpur Lodhi, but the endless train of rations is not stopping. With tonnes of rations reaching the flood-affected areas of Sultanpur Lodhi continuously from morning to evening, the villagers are now appealing to the donors to stop!

The district administration also appealed to the people today not to block the dams. The fury of the floods is subsiding, but the long queues of ration trolleys are not reducing. Villagers said that some outsiders had collected rations for years and they are taking full advantage of it. On Saturday too, a large number of trolleys and tractors loaded with rations came from Lucknow, Meerut and Delhi, in which Sikh and Muslim brothers and sisters brought ration.
