Punjab: Vardhman owner Paul Oswal duped of Rs 7 crore, 2 arrested
Punjab: Punjab Police on Sunday busted a gang of interstate cyber fraudsters who duped renowned industrialist Mr Paul Oswal of Rs 7 crore. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that two cyber criminals have been arrested and Rs 5.25 crore has been recovered from them. He said that seven other members of the gang have been identified and efforts are on to nab them. All the nine members of the gang are from Assam and West Bengal. The fraudsters duped Vardhman Group owner SP Oswal by withdrawing Rs 7 crore from his various bank accounts.
Police said that one of them posed as a CBI officer and showed a fake arrest warrant to the industrialist and threatened him with digital arrest. The police cyber cell registered a case on Oswal’s complaint and said that it solved the matter within 48 hours. Police said that the accused have been identified as Atanu Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary (both residents of Guwahati in Assam). This is the second such incident within a week. Earlier, a local industrialist was duped of Rs 1.01 crore by some fraudsters. Rajneesh Ahuja was also duped by the fraudsters by threatening to arrest him. The fraudsters claimed that the extorted amount has been transferred to his bank account.
