Punjab: Transactions worth 3 crore rupees were stopped, police are focusing on three suspects.

Punjab: In a cyber fraud case involving retired Inspector General Amar Singh Chahal, police have frozen approximately 25 bank accounts linked to the accused and successfully prevented transactions worth Rs 3 crore out of the total Rs 8.10 crore allegedly siphoned off. Police have also identified three accused operating from Maharashtra. Chahal allegedly shot himself on December 22 after realizing he had been defrauded. Initial investigations revealed that the retired officer had not informed the police about the matter before taking this drastic step. So far, the high-level investigation team has identified three individuals, all reportedly based in Maharashtra. It has emerged that the fraudsters transferred money from the former IG’s bank account to several other accounts. After analyzing the banking details and conducting technical investigations, the Patiala police, in coordination with the concerned banks, managed to freeze the funds.
Police have received clues suggesting that at least 10 people were involved in the entire cyber fraud case. Investigators are also probing whether the suspects were living under fake identities or using other methods to evade capture. Chahal had claimed that he was cheated by a man named Rajat Verma, who had introduced himself as the Managing Director and CEO of a private bank. Expressing grief over the incident, former ADGP Gurinder Singh Dhillon said, β€œIt is very sad and extremely disturbing when a friend, brother, or colleague – with whom you have worked – goes through such a situation. I am grateful to God that He saved Chahal and gave him a new lease of life.” Doctors stated that Chahal had suffered multiple rib fractures and a major injury to his left lung, with the bullet narrowly missing his heart. A medical bulletin issued on Wednesday stated that the patient’s condition is stable, he has been taken off ventilator support, and is being given light food. Police may record his statement at the hospital on Sunday.
