Punjab: Thieves attack protest sites

Punjab: Farmers protesting at Punjab’s Shambhu and Khanauri borders with Haryana are facing difficulties in getting back their belongings left behind at the protest sites during the police action on March 19 as thieves have stolen many items. According to a meeting held by Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leaders on Saturday, thieves have stolen laptops, Wi-Fi routers, refrigerators, air conditioners, coolers and inverters. Farmers, with the help of police, recovered three trolleys from Lohsimbli, where they were found parked at a workshop.

Ghanour DSP Harmanpreet Singh said, “The police team received information that some trolleys were parked in Lohsimbli village. On this, the police team reached the spot and recovered the trolleys. A case has been registered against Tinku of Lohsimbli.” DIG Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that about 50 per cent of the tractor-trailers left behind at the protest sites have been handed over to the farmers after confirming their identity. Meanwhile, a major drama was witnessed at Kutha Kheri village in Ghanaur when some farmers discovered a trolley stolen from the protest site.
