Punjab: Teachers’ union alleges department failed to take action against ‘incompetent’ principals

Punjab: An association of college teachers has written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann alleging that the Higher Education Department has failed to act on the inquiry report related to the appointment of “ineligible candidates” to the posts of principals in government colleges. The United College Teachers Association of Punjab and Chandigarh, in a memorandum to the chief minister, said the director (higher education) had constituted a committee in August 2022 to probe the appointment of eight principals working in government colleges. The committee was asked to submit its report within 15 days, but the report was never made public. The teachers’ organisation said the inquiry report clearly stated that all the eight principals “did not fulfil the eligibility criteria”.
