Punjab: Strict action will be taken on submitting fake documents, students were told

Punjab: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has issued a stern warning to candidates found submitting fake documents for reserved category MBBS course seats following several complaints. The university has vowed to take strict legal action and permanently disqualify students found guilty of such activities from future admissions in medical colleges in Punjab.

Complaints were filed against around 100 students for using multiple state residence certificates to secure seats. Last week, BFUHS banned five students for these fraudulent activities and is seeking explanations from others involved. BFUHS registrar Dr Rakesh Goreya stressed that any candidate found submitting false documents, including caste, category, non-creamy layer, sports, affected by terrorism or NRI certificates, will be permanently disqualified from future admissions. Additionally, students found applying in more than one state for state quota seats will be denied MBBS seats in Punjab.

The controversy has raised concerns during the ongoing admission process in 10 medical colleges of Punjab. Out of the 1,600 available MBBS seats, 1,250 seats are reserved under the state quota. Around 100 students have allegedly used fake residence certificates to declare themselves as genuine residents of Punjab, depriving genuine candidates from the state of their rightful chance of admission.
