Punjab: Rail infrastructure threatened, agencies on alert

Punjab: National security agencies have been put on high alert following a threat to target railway infrastructure. Security officials have stated that the severity of the threat is being assessed and railway security has been heightened. Meanwhile, passengers and officials have been advised to remain vigilant. According to sources, the threat was received from an anonymous source. Taking this information seriously, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Railway Security Forces, have increased vigilance across the network, particularly at major railway junctions and key track sections. Security officials stated that such threats cannot be taken lightly, as the railways are a vital part of the country’s transportation and economic infrastructure. They stated that security has been tightened at all railway stations and important bridges, depots, and loco sheds. The number of security cameras has been increased, and mobile and foot-based teams have been deployed to monitor suspicious activities.
The Railway Ministry has appealed to passengers to immediately report suspicious objects or activities to security officials. The ministry stated, “We, in collaboration with security agencies, are taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of passengers and railway staff. Do not ignore any irregularities or suspicious activity.” Experts say that such threats are typically spread by terrorist groups or conspirators. This could disrupt railway operations and spread fear among passengers. Therefore, security agencies are vigilantly monitoring the railway network and have increased security checks at every station. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) stated that all employees and passengers have been advised to remain vigilant. They also stated that baggage scanning and security checks at railway stations will be further tightened.
Officials warned against moving or touching any suspicious objects and to immediately report them. Following this threat, security agencies are reviewing the security of the railway network across the country. They have ensured that train operations continue as normal, but there is no laxity in security measures. Additionally, high-level meetings are being held to ensure timely response to any potential threats. This situation sends a message of caution to railway passengers across the country. Experts say this incident demonstrates that railway infrastructure can be vulnerable at any time, and therefore, security measures must be continuously strengthened. Security agencies have clarified that passengers and the general public need not panic, but remain vigilant. Officials stated that immediate action will be taken upon receiving information about any potential threat.
