Punjab: PIL filed over poor drainage
Punjab: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the state government over the long-standing sewer overflow problem in Maur Mandi, Bathinda. Punjabi Mahasabha chief Maninder Singh Sekhon has filed the PIL seeking immediate judicial intervention regarding the damage to the health of the people and the inconvenience caused on a daily basis due to the frequent overflowing of drains.
He claimed that despite repeated complaints from the locals, the authorities have failed to effectively address the problem. Thus, the health and overall quality of life in the area is getting affected. The high court has issued a notice to the Punjab government and sought a detailed reply by November 14. The case highlights the growing concerns over the management of urban infrastructure in small towns of Punjab. Earlier, PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Waring had filed a PIL in the high court regarding serious sewer overflow issues in Gidderbaha section.
