Punjab: Panchayat elections will be held before today

Punjab: Elections to 13,241 panchayats across the state will be held before October 20. A notification to this effect was issued by the Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Department late tonight. “The governor is pleased to direct that the general elections to the members of the gram panchayats be held by October 20, 2024,” the notification said. The notification has been sent by the department to the State Election Commission, which in turn will release the schedule for the elections. The model code of conduct for the elections is expected to come into force this week. State government sources said the elections could be held in the second week of October. Elections to 150 panchayat samitis and 23 zila parishads will be held later.
