Punjab: In continuation of his six-day padyatra against drug menace, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria continued his padyatra in Amritsar on the second day and called upon the people of Punjab to unite in the fight against drug menace. Today’s padyatra started from Oxford School and culminated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Group of Colleges. Terming the drug menace as a problem not only of Punjab but of the entire country, the Governor said that the State Government was making all efforts to ensure a drug-free Punjab. He also informed that the number of anti-drone systems was being increased to check the cross-border drug supply network. He said that Punjab was the land of warriors and martyrs who made immense sacrifices, hence this sacred land would not be allowed to be destroyed by the scourge of drug menace. “Security forces are working day and night to foil the nefarious designs of enemies involved in drug smuggling from across the border. Besides, Gram Raksha Samitis are doing commendable work in the fight against the drug menace,” he said. In his address at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Group of Colleges, Fatehgarh Churian, the Governor called upon children and eminent personalities to come forward to ensure a drug-free environment. “Since the government alone cannot eradicate the drug menace, it is important that common people also become a part of this campaign,” he said. He also pointed out that sports is the best way to keep the youth away from drugs. He said that any Gram Panchayat which needs any kind of help for sports-related activity can approach the concerned Deputy Commissioners. The Governor also underlined the importance of religious and moral values in keeping children away from drugs as visits to religious places connect children with their conscience which keeps their attention away from drugs. Principal Secretary to Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, international athlete Bahadur Singh, international hockey player Baljeet Singh and rowing player Chandandeep Singh were also present on the occasion.
